Here is a report of the 2008 Raritan Valley Bassmasters Top 6 Team's experience and performance.
- Weather-wise: Thunderstorms and showers ruled the entire week. Only Wednesday (the 25th) it did not rain.
- The Team pre-fished Monday, Tuesday and a portion of Wednesday. (Portions of Monday & Tuesday's pre-fish were lost to heavy downpours.) Each evening we discussed that day's successes and failures along with marking spots for use throughout the Tournament.
- Wednesday evening the TBF held a dinner at the Knights of Columbus (which was very nice) and
announced the pairings and flights for Thursday (day 1). There were 20 boats in each flight.
- RVBM was able to have 4 Boaters & 2 Non-Boaters.
- Day 1: First flight took off at 6:00am. Overcast all morning until about 9:30am when the rain started. It rained steady (with wind) until about 1:30pm. All 6 Team members did get limits and finally weight tally was 63.98 lbs which put us in 14th place overall (out of 29 Teams) at the end of day 1.
- Day 2: First flight took off at 6:00am. Some morning fog North of ramp. Humid all day. Hot Sun for midday with breeze picking up sporadically. At about 2:15pm it started becoming overcast. Torrential downpour started at about 3:00pm. Five of 6 Team members did come in with a limit and our day 2 weight was 63.82 lbs. There was 2 dead fish and the penalty is 1 lb per dead fish, so we will be penalized
2 lbs.
- The Teams totals were are follows: Fish caught: 29 (out of a possible 30)
Total Weight: 127.78 lbs (without assessed penalty).
- The final results of the Tournament will be posted on the TBF website in about a week.
I have attached an excel spreadsheet which shows the daily and combined results of the Team. I have also attached a few photo's I took over the 2 days. Each Club participant gave it his best effort and overall I think we made a fair showing. Many of the folks I got to speak with had fished these waters many times and others were on the water for nearly 10 days prior to the event. Our Team had 2 1/2 days of pre-fish time and all but 1 individual had never fished the lake before. Taking all that in to consideration, I'd say the Team did pretty well overall.
